The map is your go to tool for navigation, implemented in the Better Maps Add-On. You spawn with it already in your inventory, so you can start exploring straight away. It shows the area around you and highlights any waypoints you have created, helping you stay orientated as your world grows.
Functionality
Opening the map lets you view your surroundings in real time along with any waypoints in the world. You can adjust the zoom level from 1 to 5, where 1 is close up and 5 shows a much wider area. Whenever you change zoom, the map will update to reflect your new view.
You can interact with the map to create waypoints or select existing ones. The map also tracks your active destination, showing how far away it is, when you arrive, or if it is in another dimension.
Some features depend on your environment. The map may not open in certain positions, and in the nether it can only be used at a specific zoom level. Cave viewing is also limited to a certain zoom, otherwise the surface will be shown instead.
Interaction
Use the map item to open the map. While it is open, you can move your cursor and interact with locations to create or manage waypoints.
Holding sneak while using the map opens the map settings menu. From here you can adjust zoom, view all waypoints, clear your current destination, or close the map.
While exploring, looking at a waypoint will show its name and distance. If you are close enough, it will update to show that you have arrived.
If a waypoint is selected, you can open a menu to view its details, including location, distance, and who created it, along with options to edit, delete, set as destination, or teleport if allowed.
Obtaining
Spawning
You spawn with a map and will keep it even after death.
Crafting
You can also craft additional map using gold nuggets and an empty map. Crafted map behave slightly differently and will drop on death.
